If a person blocks you on iMessage, then they won’t get any of your texts at all. SMS is a cellular carrier technology where Apple controls iMessage. It’s important to note that this doesn’t mean they have blocked your number altogether it just means they have blocked you from sending them messages over iMessage. If you don’t see a blue bubble on your end, then it’s likely that they’ve blocked you on iMessage. For example, if you send me a message and I receive it with a green bubble, this means that the message was sent through SMS rather than iMessage. If you see green bubbles, this means that your text messages are being sent through SMS, and they might have blocked you on iMessage. ![]() If they don’t respond, check to make sure that the phone number is correct by sending them another iMessage.Īnother way to know if someone blocked you on iMessage is to check the bubble color. If you see the words “Delivered” or “Read,” then it means that person has received your message. If you don’t see these words, it means they either didn’t get your message, don’t have adequate service to receive messages, or might have blocked you. ![]() ![]() To see what each icon means, resize your Task Manager window larger, and you should see both icons and text labels for them. The Task Manager sports a redesigned look and a new Efficiency Mode that lets you limit how many resources specific apps use, in order to speed up your PC. You may be surprised to know, for example, that clicking the icon of three squares configured at a right angle will bring you to Processes, or that the speedometer icon will lead you to Startup Apps. However, there is one drawback to this new design - if your Task Manager window is sized fairly small (as is likely the case if you’re using a laptop without a large screen), the icons aren’t labelled, and it’s not obvious what they mean. Overall, the look is more pleasing and easier on the eye. The icons are large, with substantial space between them, so they’re much easier to see than the previous tabs. Instead of the previous layout of tabs across the top for processes, performance, startup apps, and so on, they’re now icons running vertically down a sidebar at the left. Mostly the interface has been improved, although there are a few new useful features as well. ![]() Tweakers and those who fiddle with their system to do things like check memory usage or disable programs that run on startup will be pleased to see an improved Task Manager. Not a whole lot, but it’s nice to get folders back, at least. You can also refresh the Recommended area to give you the most up-to-date recommendations by right-clicking Recommended and selecting Refresh.Īnd that’s pretty much it for the Start menu. Start got a few more minor tweaks, such as being able to pin an app to the taskbar from the Start menu, rather than having to do that using All Apps - just right-click the app in Start you want to pin and choose Pin to taskbar from the menu that appears. You can now choose from one of three Start menu layouts. You can also now choose from three different Start menu layouts: The one you’re familiar with in Windows 11, which is the default one titled “More pins,” which adds extra rows for pinned apps and a smaller recommendations area and one titled “More recommendations,” which makes the recommendations area larger and eliminates a row of pinned apps. Instead, drag all the app icons out of it. You can’t directly delete a Start folder, though. You can keep adding apps to a folder at any time. The folder opens with your icons in it, and the text “Folder” at the top. (Note that the Start menu is a bit finicky about where exactly you need to drop the icon, so it may take you a shot or two to do it.) Drag more apps into that folder if you’d like. Both apps will now appear as small icons in an icon simply called Folder. There’s no obvious way to do it - although once you learn it, it’s a breeze to do:ĭrag one of the Start menu’s pinned icons onto the icon of an app you want to group it with. Unfortunately, Microsoft seemed to go out of its way to hide this feature. So you can, for example, group PowerPoint, a graphics program, and a video editor in the same folder so they’re easy to find when you create presentations. My favorite addition is the ability to create folders to organize your apps, as you could in Windows 10 - a feature that Microsoft unaccountably eliminated in Windows 11. This time there’s nothing major, though, only a few minor tweaks. As with so many Windows feature updates, in this one Microsoft continues to fiddle with the Start menu.

Principles of Geometry Dürer, Albrecht (1535) This anthology of the works of Alberti, a humanist scholar, contains the printed edition of his treatise, “On Painting,” a work he originally dedicated to Brunelleschi. Moral Essays Alberti, Leon Battista (1568) Indeed, it was once believed to have been made by Galileo, but is now attributed to Campani. This is a replica of a microscope that is very much like one of the microscopes Galileo might have created. In 1543 little proof was available that the Earth moves there were many reasons not to accept it. The Earth moves as a planet around the Sun, carrying its Moon along as a satellite. On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres, 1566 Copernicus, Nicolaus (1566)Ĭopernicus argued that the Sun rather than the Earth lies in the center of the universe. He designated stars by Roman letters (a, b, c, etc.) in order of apparent brightness. In contrast to the constellation figures in Hyginus and Abu Ma’shar, Piccolomini created a star atlas, measuring the positions of the stars according to an indicated scale (specific to each plate). On the Fixed Stars Piccolomini, Alessandro (1540) The title page of the Sidereus nuncius refers to the telescope as a little “perspective tube” (perspicilli). 1 Vasari , Giorgio (1878-85)Īstronomers and artists alike studied the science of perspective. Just inside, Perspectiva stands among the sciences that open the way to Philosophia. Tartaglia’s frontispiece shows Euclid guarding the gate of knowledge. Niccolò Tartaglia argued for the use of mathematics in physics, engineering and art. While you might feel that there’s not much to look forward to – we’re still deploying improved versions of these modern marvels to better our understanding of the universe.Works… A New Science Tartaglia, Niccolo (1606) The invention of the telescope truly revolutionized the way we see the world and our place in it. They opened humanity to an entirely new world in the cosmos, and as these telescopes have shrunk, we’ve turned many of them back towards the surface to watch birds and other forms of wildlife. While there have been more modern advances to the telescope, the ones that amateur astronomers use are still reminiscent of these early inventions. The Newtonian Reflecting Telescope took care of this issue. Refracting telescopes would place red light and blue light in different positions, leading to an image that didn’t necessarily match reality. Second, it removed the aberration issues that plagued refracting telescopes. If you were trying to avoid light pollution or take a telescope anywhere outside of the lab, this was a significant advantage. First, reflecting telescopes were much smaller than refracting telescopes, making them much more portable. For starters, reflecting telescopes were much cheaper to build, easier to assemble, and gave a wide field of view.īut those advantages paled in comparison to the next two features. When Newton finished his reflecting telescope in 1668, it revolutionized the telescope world. This was an idea that astronomers and scientists talked about for some time, but nobody actually built it before Newton. While both compound and refracting telescopes existed, neither utilized mirrors instead of lenses. Before Isaac Newton, every telescope worked off the same principle – refraction. ![]() Let stand at least 30 minutes and up to 4 hours at room temperature. Typically, phishing scams require you to click on a link and complete an action like confirming personal information. Phishing emails and texts often look as if they are sent from trusted companies you may already know. The FBI reported that Americans lost more than $57 million in phishing scams alone in 2019. Phishing scams are popular because of the accessibility of reaching large numbers of people through email and text messages. Their goal is to access your personal accounts, such as email accounts and bank and other financial accounts. The information they want includes passwords, Social Security numbers, account numbers and more. With phishing, scammers use texts and emails to trick individuals into giving up personal information. Unless you pay close attention to your daily bank transactions, you may not notice the scam until much later. Upon receiving the draft, your bank will transfer money from your checking account to pay the scammer. Once the scammer has your checking and bank information, they put it on demand draft, which is processed like a check but doesn’t require a signature. They often play this off as a way to verify that you qualify for the offer. The goal is to get you to read off the numbers at the bottom of your personal checks. The way this scam works is that individuals receive a phone call or postcard indicating that they’ve won a prize or qualified for a special offer. Scammers like automatic withdrawals too, but for other reasons. Automatic Withdrawal ScamsĪutomatic withdrawals are a great way to automate your savings, pay bills and more.
